A South Korean actress has triggered a nationwide emotional crisis across Singapore after posting photos of herself weeping at a laminated cardboard cutout of her own face.

The 55-year-old performer revisited the set of Jewel In The Palace, where she famously played a kitchen maid who became a doctor by boiling weeds.

Local fans have responded with the kind of hysterical grief usually reserved for a McDonald’s toy shortage.

“Siao liao, I see her cry, I also cry till my pillow soak man,” wailed one local fan.

“Even if she just a piece of plastic now, I still feel her power inside me lah!”
