The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has unveiled its latest public transport safety campaign, featuring a new series of government mascots designed to gently shepherd commuters into compliance. Dubbed the 'Kiasu Kaki' (roughly translated: 'Fear of Losing Out Friends'), the cartoon characters include 'Mr. Queue' (who reminds you to stand behind the yellow line) and 'Auntie Tap-In' (who monitors your MRT card balance). Critics suggest the posters are patronising, showing little faith in the populace's ability to board a bus without supervision. "Eh, I know how to wait lah! This one so *sabo*," complained one resident, while another noted, "If they put so much effort into drawing this, why not just make the bus arrive on time, *siao ah*?" The LTA spokesperson stated the mascots are designed to "gently reinforce societal norms" and reduce the national 'stress load' caused by having to think for oneself.
