LTA Replaces ‘Insufficient Balance’ Beep With 120-Decibel ‘Poor Person’ Alarm
The Land Transport Authority has unveiled a new gantry system designed to maximise the public humiliation of commuters with insufficient EZ-Link balances.
The traditional red light will be replaced by a high-intensity strobe and a pre-recorded voice screaming "BROKE PERSON" at 110 decibels.
Commuters failing to maintain the mandatory minimum balance will be immediately detained by auxiliary police for intensive "maths remedial."
Witness Tan Ah Kow expressed his approval of the new measures while hovering near a top-up machine.
"Wah piang, very good leh, last time only one 'beep' sound, now the whole station know he no money, damn paiseh sia!" Tan remarked.
Authorities believe this public shaming is more effective than any fine in maintaining Singapore’s "world-class" status.
Public poverty remains a punishable offence.
